So I delivered my opening keynote address at SURF Education Days today. It was not the usual Web 2.0 rant people were expecting - instead, I focused on the Kirschner Sweller Clark paper I mentioned yesterday (thank you for the posts and emails - they were extremely helpful) and delivered what amounted to a thorough criticism. This paper, though it has been around for about a year, was relatively new to me. I was rather surprised when I read some summaries a couple of weeks ago, and quite concerned when I read the paper itself, just recently, especially given that it was published in a first-rate journal. The responses, in my mind, missed the heart of the critique, and allowed the authors to walk away relatively unscathed. Not after today. There ought to be a certain standard in our field, especially in that part of it that represents itself as the academic and professional part. Slides are also here. Actes racistes et antireligieux : les chiffres pour 2019

Accueil - Vie PubliqueHausse des faits à caractère antisémite et des faits antimusulmans, hausse des faits à caractère raciste et xénophobe, le bilan statistique des actes antireligieux et racistes pour l'année 2019(nouvelle fenêtre) révèle notamment une progression des actes de la catégorie "menace" (propos ou gestes menaçants, tracts, courriers, etc.).

Les actes antireligieux

Les faits antireligieux augmentent sensiblement en 2019.
687 faits à caractère antisémite ont été constatés (soit une hausse de 27% par rapport à 2018) : 151 faits sont des actions (dégradations, violences physiques, etc.), 536 relèvent de la catégorie "menace".
1052 faits antichrétiens ont été recensés : 996 dans la catégorie "action" (atteintes aux biens religieux), 56 dans la catégorie "menace". Le chiffre est stable par rapport à 2018.
154 faits antimusulmans ont été recensés contre 100 en 2018 (soit une hausse de 35%) : 63 dans la catégorie "action", 91 dans la catégorie "menace". 

Les actes racistes et xénophobes

En 2019, 1 142 actes à caractère raciste et xénophobe ont été constatés contre 496 en 2018. 977 de ces faits relèvent de la catégorie "menace". Plus...
