Changing Places: Instructional Designers Become Online Classroom Participants

Changing Places: Instructional Designers Become Online Classroom Participants
Good article describing instructional designers' experiences as online students during a series of presentations hosted by e-Learning Guru (the eLearning Developers' Journal, in which this article appears, is usually a subscription-based journal, however, the author sent me this link, which works - for now, at least. SCO Attorney Declares GPL Invalid

SCO Attorney Declares GPL Invalid
I can't see how a judge would favour the SCO interpretation, as it would be a major change to declare the concept of free software contrary to law. But that seems to be what SCO is urging, as their lawyers argue that GPL violates U.S. copyright law by allowing more than one copy to be copied, and is therefore invalid. More...

Google Ads a Threat to eBay Trademark?

Google Ads a Threat to eBay Trademark?
I don't know where ebay would be if it couldn't use the brand names of other companies on its site, but the same logic doesn't appear to have occurred to its lawyers as it demands that Google cease allowing advertisers to use the eBay name in their ads. More...

Search Engines: Weblog Search Engines

Search Engines: Weblog Search Engines
Short article that reviews major blog search engines. Though the author lists some major sites, such as DayPop, Blogdex and Feedster, some major indices are overlooked, including Blogstreet, Memufacture, PopDex, Bloglines and Technorati. SchoolBlogs is an important site for educational blogs, as are the Educational Bloggers Network and Edublog News. And of course I would be remiss if I left my own Edu-RSS off this list. More...

Let's Tie the Digital Knot

Let's Tie the Digital Knot
This article is five years old but it is fundamentally right and well worth repeating in the context of the current debate about teachers' use of technology. In particular, as was commented to me yesterday, "most virtual classrooms and computer facilitated learning looks to education like the horseless carriage looked to the old buggies - cosmetically different." I agree. More...

The Digital Optimist

The Digital Optimist
"A journalist by trade," George Lorenzo reports on trends he observed while conducting research for an article on e-learning. Most of what he reports is consistent with my own observations, and a few of his points are worth noting. More...
