Erasmus-Studenten sind verpflichtet, ein "Learning-Agreement" abzuschließen. In der Lernvereinbarung listet man bereits vor dem Wechsel auf, welche Veranstaltungen man an der Gast-Uni belegen will. Studenten, die auf eigene Faust gehen, sollten ebenfalls mit der Heimat-Uni abstimmen, welche Seminare und Vorlesungen sie besuchen wollen. Wenn die Heimat-Universität damit einverstanden ist, sichert sie zu, die erworbenen ECTS-Punkte nach der Rückkehr anzurechnen. Ein Formular dafür gibt es beim Prüfungsamt oder im Fachbereich. Tausende wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter, die sich von Zeitvertrag zu Zeitvertrag hangeln, haben sich womöglich zu früh gefreut: Im vergangenen Jahr hatte ein Mitarbeiter der Uni Gießen vor dem Arbeitsgericht geklagt, weil er über zehn Jahre insgesamt 16 befristete Verträge bekommen hatte. Studienfinanzierung: Wer erhält Bafög - und wie viel?

Die Zahl der Schüler und Studenten, die Bafög erhalten, ist erneut gesunken. Eine aktuelle Statistik zeigt: Nur knapp die Hälfte bekommt den Höchstsatz von 670 Euro.
Immer mehr Studenten, aber immer weniger Bafög-Bescheide: Die Zahl der Schüler und Studenten, die für ihre Ausbildung eine staatliche Förderung erhalten, ist weiter zurückgegangen. Rund 925.000 von ihnen bekamen 2014 Geld nach dem Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (Bafög). Das waren 3,5 Prozent weniger als im Jahr zuvor. Mehr...

Call for papers: inequalities of access to higher education

By Hedda. Siences Po – LIEPP is organising a conference themed “Inequalities of access to higher education: the role of policies, institutions and markets“. The conference takes place in Paris, October 8-9, 2015. The conference language is English.
The conference is a follow-up to the research project “Transition to higher education in France: the role of networks, institutions and markets” funded by LIEPP (Laboratory for the Interdisciplinary Evaluation of Public Policies) in 2013-2015.

Global Education Industry Summit

Most countries define education as a public good and a prime responsibility of public policy. But at the same time an education industry is developing, often at a global scale, offering various kinds of products and services to schools. This is most markedly the case in educational technology, but also in the field of educational resources, textbooks, and various kinds of support services. Moreover, global education industry leaders often express their views on the future of education and stress the need for 21st century skills and pedagogy.
The time is ripe to establish a dialogue between ministers of education and the global education industry. To that end, the OECD, the European Commission and host country Finland invite ministers of education and industry leaders to the Global education Industry Summit in Helsinki. More...

CHEA releases international quality principles for higher ed

By Tara García Mathewson. Beyond the international quality guidelines, CHEA is piloting a Quality Platform in China as a way to review nontraditional programs. CHEA has expressed concern with the increasing number of students seeking nontraditional programs that are not accredited or even, in many cases, evaluated. The Quality Platform provides a process through which to evaluate these programs, offering more information for students, governments, and the institutions themselves. CHEA presented the platform last August, still encouraging reflection about what institutions might be best-equipped to do the evaluation work, existing accreditors or new organizations focused exclusively on the nontraditional sector.
