Young Australians will be even worse off if the government uncaps university fees

A report released today by the Foundation for Young Australians called Renewing Australia’s Promise shows that for the first time young Australians are unlikely to be better off than their parents. While the report shows that eeducational attainment has risen significantly over the last 30 years, with young people 1.6 times more likely to finish school and 1.4 times more likely to gain tertiary qualifications, it also shows that almost a third of all young people are unemployed or underemployed, and for those who have gone to university they have average debts of $24,000. Evidence given to the Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee’s Inquiry into the Higher Education and Research Reform Amendment (HERRA) Bill 2014 definitely confirmed that higher education is far too important to be left to the market. Based on evidence presented at the Inquiry and responses from Government Senators, it is clear that the Senate Committee will recommend that the Minister for Education make substantial amendments if the legislation is to have any chance of getting through the Senate. Evaluation of the National Scholarship Programme – Year 3

HEFCE logoThe formative evaluation commenced in 2011 when the scheme was being set up, in order to provide an independent perspective on the development of the scheme and its implementation. The evaluation is being conducted in a series of interlocking phases designed to capture longitudinal data from a range of stakeholders. The first-year report focused on the development of the scheme before implementation in 2011-12 and was published in May 2012 with an addendum and summary of year one in March 2013. The Student Engagement Partnership

HEFCE logoHEFCE is providing funding for the Student Engagement Partnership (TSEP) to support, develop and promote student engagement activity in the higher education sector in England.
The unit is a central resource for practitioners and institutions, and coordinates the sharing of knowledge relating to student engagement at a national level.
