Before Mobility - Sign LA

The Learning Agreement (LA) defines the conditions for the mobility of each individual learner. The LA is usually agreed between the sending and hosting organisations and the mobile learner. Prior to signing the LA, the home organisation should discuss all aspects of the mobility period with the mobile learner. More...

Before Mobility - Clarify Validation and Recognition

The purpose of applying ECVET for mobility in VET is to facilitate credit transfer from one learning environment to another. That is, learning achievements abroad should be recognised in the home country as part of the intended qualification. Before mobility, it must be agreed under which conditions the learning outcomes acquired abroad can be accepted as either part of the intended qualification or as an addition to it. This could mean, for example, that learners do not have to retake an examination or catch up on periods of learning. More...

Before Mobility - Agree on How to Document Learners' Achievements

Recognizing learning outcomes acquired abroad relies on providing evidence that the learning outcomes have been successfully achieved as verified in the assessment. In order to make learners’ progress during mobility visible (that is, the extent to which a learner has gained particular knowledge, skills and competence), it is important to document their achievements in a transparent way. Before Mobility - Discuss Assessment

One of the core ideas of ECVET is that units of learning outcomes achieved in one setting are assessed and then, after successful assessment, transferred to another setting. In this context, credit is understood as assessed learning outcomes.
In the framework of geographical mobility, assessment has two main roles:

  • It provides a basis for validation and recognition of learning outcomes and thus for credit transfer.
  • It makes learners’ progress made during mobility visible (that is, the extent to which a learner gains knowledge, skills and competence) and thus gives added value to mobility. More...

Before Mobility - Identify Units of Learning Outcomes

The description of qualifications in terms of units of learning outcomes is one of the main elements of ECVET. However, not all qualifications are designed in this way and units designed in different contexts can be quite different (for example, in terms of the range of learning outcomes comprised or their complexity, the concepts and categories used for formulating learning outcomes or the purposes, functions and target groups of such descriptions). Before Mobility - Prepare MoU

A partnership for ECVET mobility is formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It is a framework agreement between partner organisations from two or more countries establishing procedures and arrangements for cooperation. The MoU sets out the roles of partners involved and specifies under which conditions credits can be transferred. The use of an MoU can support the establishment of mutual trust between the partners concerned. More...

Before Mobility - ECVET Toolkit

Before a mobility period can begin, a great deal of planning and work is required in initial stages. But once there is a functioning partnership, a Memorandum of Understanding has been put in place, and the first students have completed their mobility period, the preparatory phase for future mobility activities becomes much simpler. Building ECVET Mobility Partnerships - Building Trust

Trust is at the core of any ECVET-partnership focusing on mobility actions. The partners must be able to mutually rely on, among other things, the learning opportunities provided, the arrangements concerning mentoring and tutoring, the learning outcome descriptions that are drawn up and most importantly at the quality of the assessment of the learning outcomes as well as the documentation of that assessment at the end of the mobility period.
Transparency and quality assurance as a source of trust
A major element, even if not the only one, in creating that trust between partners is the transparency of the procedures and also the transparency of the results of the work processes of the partners. Such transparency can usually be reached through clear and well managed quality assurance systems on the part of the organisations in question. More...

Building ECVET Mobility Partnerships - From Bilateral Cooperation to Networks or Consortia

Moving from bilateral cooperation with a number of different partners to functioning as a network or consortium is a big step for a partnership. But networks or consortia are a form of cooperation that can provide great benefits to partnerships that have grown larger, who use the same approaches to ECVET-mobility, and who have similar ways of cooperating. More...

Building ECVET Mobility Partnerships - Using ECVET with New and Existing Partners

Preliminary suitability of the partner
To establish if an organisation abroad is a suitable partner for (ECVET) mobility, it is recommended to start by gathering more information to better understand the framework conditions in which future mobility will be arranged:

  • Partner country’s VET system and curricula
  • Structure of the training provider
  • Opportunities provided for practical training at work places in the hosting country. More...
