UK: Fall in International STEM Students Threatens Quality

http://www.ireg-observatory.org/images/audit/audit_baner_pionowy_1.gifThe Science and Technology Select Committee of the upper house of the British parliament, the House of Lords, has investigated the number of international students in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in British universities and the impact of immigration policy. Over the last two years the number of international students fell by 10%.
Tightening immigration rules, high visa fees and restrictions on working after graduation were deterring students who were now more attracted to the USA, Australia and Canada.

Twenty-first century schools help students to develop autonomy and identity that is cognisant of the reality of national and global pluralism, equipping them to join others in life, work and citizenship. According to the latest Eurobarometer survey on the social impact of the crisis, 80% of respondents believe that poverty has increased in their country over the past 12 months. Over 30% of respondents in Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary reported that their household ran out of money to pay for ordinary bills, food and other daily consumer items at some point during the previous 12 months. These alarming numbers are reflecting the perception of European citizens. But what do indicators measuring different dimensions of poverty and inequality actually show? More...

Improving Access to Visas and Residence Permits

ESN logoESN has experienced first hand the difficult access to Visas and Residence Permits. Our Web Project Administrator Salih Odabasi from Turkey was not able to join us here in the headquarters in Brussels for his elected term 2013/14.
