Making sense of the MOOCs

http://www.elearningeuropa.info/sites/default/files/elearning_papers.pngThe seminar “Making Sense of the MOOCs” seeks to unpack the concept of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), trace its developments in Europe and beyond, and to reveal the back office in the production of these courses with practical examples. The event, to be held in Brussels on October 10th 2013, will also look at the geography of MOOCs and discuss whether and how they can possibly take root and blossom in Europe.
Are MOOCs just "old wine in new bottles"? How are they different from traditional online distance learning initiatives? Who are the players and where are they from? What do MOOCs offer to the learners? How are MOOCs financed? What are the best or worst practices in the offering of MOOCs? What are the typical myths of MOOCs? What do MOOCs mean for Europe? Are MOOCs here to stay, or will they soon fade away? These are some of the questions to be addressed during the seminar.
This one-day event aims to provide a platform for experienced 'MOOCers', traditional online distance providers, sceptical and enthusiastic onlookers, as well as policymakers and practitioners at all levels to exchange views and first-hand experiences about massive open online courses.
The seminar is jointly organised by the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) and the European University Association (EUA). Click here for programme and registrations.

Workshop "Computational tools fostering Creativity in Learning Processes" at ECTEL2013

http://www.elearningeuropa.info/sites/default/files/elearning_papers.pngCall for Workshop Papers
"Computational tools fostering Creativity in Learning Processes" (CCL)
ECTEL 2013 conference: 18 September 2013
http://ccl2013.iit.demokritos.gr/cfp
Paper submission: 12 July 2013
Learning can be viewed as a continuous iterative cycle through the processes of imagining, creating, playing, sharing and reflection. Learners develop and refine their abilities as creative thinkers. They learn to develop their own ideas, try them out, test the boundaries, experiment with alternatives, get input from others, and generate new ideas based on the feedback and their experiences. Fostering creativity in learning is increasingly seen as a key direction and focus for pedagogic approaches. Creative activity grows out of the relationship between the learner and the world of his or her educational context, as well as out of the ties between an individual and other learners. In this workshop we focus on the study, design, development and evaluation of emergent computational tools that aim to leverage creativity in learning processes.
