The importance of high-skill jobs for European regions

In 2011 about 10% of overall employment in the European Union (EU-27) was in high-skill jobs, defined as all jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) occupations plus all non-STEM jobs in high-tech sectors. This share has been rising steadily over the last decade, as the employment growth in these high-skill jobs strongly outpaced overall employment growth. While total employment grew by 8% in the period 2000-2011, high-skill employment grew by almost 20% during the same period. New Eurydice publication: Structural Indicators for Monitoring Education and Training Systems in Europe – 2015

This report contains more than 30 structural indicators that focus on country progress and key policy developments in five areas:  early childhood education and care, achievement in basic skills, higher education, graduate employability, and learning mobility. Information covers all the EU Member States as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey. The reference year is 2014/15. This year’s edition records worrying signals from Northern Europe, a region that has so far kept up investments in higher education and research. The European Atlas of Universities in Energy Research & Education is now online

EUA presents the first European Atlas of Universities in Energy Research & Education, a compendium of European university-based Master, Doctorate and Research Programmes. The Atlas has been developed by the EUA energy platform, the “European Platform of Universities in Energy Research & Education” (EUA-EPUE).
