By Jean Pisani-Ferry. In Europe, 2015 began with the far-left Syriza party’s election victory in Greece. It ended with another three elections that attested to increasing political polarization. In Portugal, the Socialist Party formed an alliance with its former archenemy, the Communists. In Poland, the nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party won enough support to govern on its own. And in Spain, the emergence of Podemos, another new left-wing party, has ended the traditional hegemony of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party on the center left and the Partido Popular on the center right. Par Jean Pisani-Ferry. En Europe, l’année 2015 a commencé avec la victoire du parti d’extrême-gauche Syriza aux élections législatives grecques. Elle s’est achevée sur trois autres élections, qui témoignent d’une polarisation politique marquée. Au Portugal, le parti socialiste s’est allié au parti communiste, autrefois son pire ennemi, pour trouver une majorité à la chambre. En Pologne, le parti Droit et justice (PiS) a obtenu la majorité absolue des sièges à la Diète et s’est empressé d’appliquer un programme ultra-nationaliste. En Espagne, l’émergence de Podemos, nouveau parti de la gauche radicale, met fin au bipartisme et à l’hégémonie traditionnelle du Parti socialiste ouvrier espagnol (PSOE), au centre gauche, et du Parti populaire (PP), au centre droit. From 20-22 January 2016, education, literacy and basic skills’ experts from more than twenty-eight European countries and representatives of international agencies will, at a conference in Amsterdam, discuss literacy in Europe.
