A few critical issues that will bubble to the surface involve financial health, academic performance, student wellness and continuity in leadership. More...

Suite...

I Will Not Post This

By Stephen Downes - Stephen's Web. I Will Not Post This
Dave Pell, Life, Philosophy, 2014/12/26

Subtitled "the coming age of self-censorship" this article discusses the way the internet critics pile on when you tweet or write something inappropriate - or, as in the case of Donald Sterling, get recorded tirading through a racist rant. More...

Beautiful Tribute to Adrianne Wadewitz (1977-2014) by Virginia Heffernan In NYT

http://www.hastac.org/files/imagecache/homepage_50/pictures/picture-79-873560aec16bee4b69793f2fa0fbd715.jpgBy Cathy Davidson. The wonderful New York Times writer Virginia Heffernan has written a very moving tribute to the beautiful Adrianne Wadewitz (1977-2014), celebrating all she did during a life far too short to make Wikipedia a stronger online resource, paying special attention to issues of women and gender.   All who knew and admired and loved Adrianne will be both saddened and pleased to see this remarkable woman so honored, with some of the most famous celebrities, thinkers, writers, and others in the world.   It is a fine tribute:  http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/12/25/magazine/2014-the-lives-thMore...

Teaching, Learning and the College Ratings Framework

By . In a tale worthy of O.Henry's combs and watch fob, just as colleges and universities across the country have begun to get the hang of good practices in learning outcomes assessment, in large part due to pressure for accountability imposed by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) on accrediting agencies, USDE has now declared learning outcomes impossible to consider in its framework for establishing ratings on the quality and value of institutions of higher education. A Holiday Gift

http://www.insidehighered.com/sites/default/server_files/styles/blog_landing/public/StratEDgy%20Graphic%20Resized.jpg?itok=kIrUoz70By Margaret Andrews. Last time I wrote you a song, so this holiday season I decided on a more practical gift for readers of StratEDgy. Over the years, I’ve had many people – family, friends, students, and acquaintances – tell me they thought I had a ‘cool’ job and ask me for tips and tactics for getting a job, or a better job, in higher education. Santa's Transcript

HomeThe National Student Clearinghouse is celebrating the holiday season by releasing Santa's transcript. He double majored in business administration and adolescent behavior at North Pole University, taking courses such as celestial navigation and reindeer breeding. The clearinghouse, always sensitive to federal privacy laws, noted that Santa gave permission for his transcript (see below) to be released.
If anyone has Judah Maccabee's transcript -- we believe he studied political science at the University of Modiin -- we would share that document as well. Read more...

Reflect back to move forward

By Jennifer Polk. Instead of making New Year’s resolutions, I’m going to reflect back on what I did and didn’t do this past year, and explore how I feel about those things. Those reflections will highlight things that are important to me, and suggest future priorities and action steps. Read more...
