Higher Education: Government Considers Overhaul Of University Programmes
The government is considering the introduction of a tuition fee for several popular university programmes, while others, such as degrees in communication, would be abolished completely, the State Secretariat’s new higher education strategy reveals.

Project set to boost higher technical education in colleges across the country
The Association of Colleges (AoC) has been awarded £2.75 million by the HEFCE Catalyst Fund to enhance the learning of higher education students in colleges. The project will see teachers working closely with employers to ensure they are passing on the most up-to-date industry knowledge to their students. Europe: new guidance on HE standards
New guidelines on higher education standards could come into force next year if approved and adopted by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) Ministerial Meeting in May 2015.
The 'Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area' sets standards for institutions, external quality assurance and the agencies that carry out this work across Europe.
The revised guidelines (opens in new window) state that external quality assurance processes should be reliable, useful, pre-defined, implemented consistently and published. Quality assurance agencies should be independent, have an established legal basis, and ensure the involvement of stakeholders in their governance and work. More...
