In terms of background characteristics, BTEC students are more likely to be from black or other ethnic minority groups, or to come from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Milestones, borders and boundaries: EAIE 2017 in review
It was a very good year! Perhaps not quite in the same sense as in Frank Sinatra’s classic song, but I have the impression that the EAIE really made significant progress on many fronts. One of the more obvious milestones was the Annual Conference & Exhibition in Seville. Not only did we have a record attendance of 6000 participants from 95 different countries, we also took strides in making the conference more sustainable and offset its carbon footprint. On top of that, we ran two successful Academies in Marseille and Warsaw, organised a Spotlight Seminar on Marketing and Recruiting in Amsterdam, and moved forward with our strategic goals. More...

EUA focus group explores institutional strategies towards diversity and inclusiveness
There are different drivers that lead institutions to develop specific strategies in the area. In several systems there are certain legal requirements that request universities to foster equal opportunities e.g. through specific policies or offices, but many also reported that they see it as an important part of the university’s mission to serve society as a whole. While at first many institutions approached the topic from a gender equality perspective, several participants reported that more recently the approaches had been broadened to encompass diversity in various dimensions such as gender, age, physical/mental condition, socio-economic background, ethnic origin or cultural and religious background. Several also referred to the increased influx of refugees that had put the issue again on the agenda. More...

EUA welcomes the Council’s conclusions as they were very much in line with proposals presented in the Association’s recently published recommendations. However, EUA calls on the Council to take a deeper look at several matters that need to be addressed to make the next Framework Programmea powerful successor to Horizon 2020. More...
Brexit negotiations: First phase ends on a positive note for universities
The joint report with the details of the agreement between the UK and the European Commission importantly states that the UK will continue to pay according to the commitments made in the 2014-2020 EU’s financial framework, which include Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+. This means that UK universities can fully participate in both programmes until they end, even after the UK will have left the EU. More...
