College rankings no longer rank

University Business LogoSubmitted by Stefanie Botelho. At the request (i.e., demand) of my parents, I recently visited their attic to clear out my old stuff. The biggest culprit was my vast collection of cassette tapes. While it was easy enough to part with Madonna and New Kids on the Block, I grew nostalgic about the recordings I made on my snazzy Casio two-cassette boombox, most of which were of the weekly radio show American Top 40 with Casey Kasem.

QS and Times Higher Education Asian Rankings

The scope and methodology of the two rankings are somewhat different. The THE rankings include Middle Eastern universities and use the same methodology as their World University Rankings. Brazil dominates QS Latin American Ranking

Once again, QS have adjusted their methodology to take account of regional priorities. The weighting of the academic survey is 30 % compared to 40% in the world rankings while the employer survey has been assigned 20%, reflecting the region’s concern with the employability of graduates. Tunisian Plan for Higher Education Reform

Malaysian Rankings Targets

The plan outlines five key aspirations: to increase enrolment in higher education institutions to 70 per cent, to improve the quality of graduates, institutions and the overall system. The target for quality includes getting four universities in the top 200 of the QS World University Rankings and two in the top 100 as well as one in the top 25 of the QS Asian University Rankings. Fourth annual Russian University Ranking

Within the framework of comprehensive research, various statistical indicators were used, as well as large-scale surveys among 17.400 respondents: employers, representatives of academic and scientific circles, students and graduates. The system of ranking preparation complies with the ISO:9001:2008 standards. The ranking results were published in the most cited Russian publications (newspapers “Izvestia” and “Komsomolskaya Pravda”), with total circulation of over 800 thousand copies.
