QS University Rankings: BRICS 2015 – Overview

Top UniversitiesReleased today, the 2015 edition of the QS University Rankings: BRICS reflects the increasingly strong global presence of leading Chinese universities – with the top three spots going to C9 members Tsinghua University, Peking University and Fudan University.
Russia’s leading entrant, Lomonosov Moscow State University, falls one position this year, but retains a highly respectable fourth place. India’s top representative, the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, follows immediately behind in fifth. Brazil makes its first appearance with the Universidade de São Paulo in ninth place, while South Africa’s leader is the University of Cape Town in 14th – both having fallen slightly since last year. The business of rankings: did the US News & World Report make substantial mistakes?

School #1 provides high-quality instruction and strong supports in order to academically accelerate students and challenge them to take difficult courses.
School #2 provides high-quality instruction but doesn’t push students to do more than what is normally expected.
If you’re an actual parent, you probably prefer school #1.
But if you’re US News & World Report, selecting the “Best High Schools” in America, you apparently prefer school #2. More...

Efforts to boost local university rankings paying off

Efforts by the government to prop up local institutes of higher learning in international university rankings are beginning to pay off, Minister of Education II Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh told the Dewan Negara today.
