Australian universities to help boost US study abroad

Second round of diaspora scholars in US head for Africa

There has been an enthusiastic response to the two-year Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program, which connects African-born academics working in North America to universities in six African countries. Les #étudiants étrangers: un «apport inestimable» au développement du Québec

«Les étudiants étrangers sont un apport inestimable au développement du Québec», a affirmé Sylvie Beauchamp, la présidente de l’Assemblée des gouverneurs de l’Université du Québec, dans une lettre ouverte publiée vendredi.
Cette prise de position fait écho aux différents scénarios évalués par le gouvernement Couillard concernant les politiques de droits de scolarité appliquées aux étudiants étrangers dans les universités québécoises. Ainsi, la fin de la réciprocité avec la France est discutée, ainsi que la possibilité d’une déréglementation complète des montants exigés pour accueillir les étudiants étrangers. Voir l'article...

The OECD’s origins in the trenches

The OECD was created in 1961, but you can trace its origins back to the First World War, the centenary of which we’re celebrating this year, and in particular to today, Armistice Day. The Great War didn’t end formally with the signing of the Armistice on 11 November 1918, but on 28 June 1919, with the Treaty of Versailles. Can community action open up universities?

Can it help to attract students from traditionally underrepresented groups? Can it bridge the gap between higher education and communities that have traditionally been excluded from it? And can it even benefit the core curriculum?

In this talk I address the phenomenon of open online learning, and in particular the massive open online course (MOOC), and discusses how it opens new frontiers in learning. Through their use of open educational resources and a student-centered pedagogy, MOOCs make learning accessible to people no matter where they live. This is resulting in the transformation of the global education system such that advanced and formal learning is becoming increasingly accessible and affordable. In this talk I talks about the transformation of educational systems talking place, the policy implications of open online learning, and the practical implementation of open online courses. More...
