NTEU is proud to announce that Marian Baird will deliver the 2013 NTEU Annual Lecture on Thursday 5 December at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Professor Baird’s NTEU lecture topic is “A Positive Tension: The Academic and Policy Debates”.
In this lecture Professor Baird will examine the question of what is the role of the academic in contemporary Australia. She reflects on the past decade of work on gender and public policies and considers the implications for academic life, union responses and work more broadly. Consideration is given to the inherent tensions between active policy involvement and involvement in the modern university, including workload, academic freedom and intellectual integrity.
Previous NTEU lecturers have been Chief Scientist Professor Ian Chubb (2011) and David Williamson AO (2012).
“A Positive Tension: The Academic and Policy Debates” Speaker: Professor Marian Baird
