International students, who provide half of the migration count, are currently trapped by the politics of anti-migration. This diminishes the value of their experience and their education.

College aid for immigrant students wins Legislature’s OK

The Seattle TimesBy Andrew Garber. A bill that allows students brought to the United States illegally as children becomes the first law to pass the Legislature this year. It’s anybody’s guess if other bills will reach Gov. Jay Inslee before the session ends on March 13.

Immigration battle set to freeze Swiss out of European research

Degrees evade Filipino youth

By Carol Sanders. Less likely to surpass their parents: study. The children of Canadian immigrants generally do better than their parents -- unless they're Filipino males, a study released Wednesday shows.
The Institute for Research on Public Policy conducted what's been hailed as the first study to focus on Filipino youth in Canada. The study, Understanding Intergenerational Social Mobility: Filipino Youth in Canada, found Filipino youth, particularly males, are less likely to hold a university degree than their parents and their peers in other immigrant groups.
With the Philippines being one of Canada's leading source countries for new immigrants and the main source for Manitoba, the lack of upward mobility for Filipino youth is worth studying, said Prof. Philip Kelly, director of the York Centre for Asian Research in Toronto and author of the study. Skilled immigrants to be matched with vacant jobs in 2015

By Susana Mas. New immigration system set to launch in 2015 is being compared to 'a dating site'. The federal government is looking to match skilled immigrants with unfilled jobs, in what it's calling a new "fast and flexible system of economic immigration" it intends to have in place in January 2015.
Under this new system, which the government has compared to "a dating site," Ottawa would act as chief matchmaker between immigrants who want to move to Canada for work and Canadian employers looking to fill job vacancies.
"We're looking for an economic match," said Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander in an interview with CBC News. More...
