La plateforme EPALE a été imaginée en 2014, lancée officiellement en avril 2015 à Bruxelles puis dans différents pays européens. On compte 34 "services nationaux d'assistance" qui déploient la plateforme dans leur pays (UE et pays candidats dont Turquie, Albanie, Montenegro), et ce dans 23 langues différentes.
Son objectif : favoriser les échanges entre les différentes parties-prenantes de l’éducation et la formation des adultes, qu’il s’agisse d’acteurs institutionnels, politiques, formateurs, chercheurs, journalistes et autres professionnels impliqués dans des collaborations nationales et européennes.
