1 Killed, 2 Injured in Shooting at Tennessee State

Professor Who Killed 3 Colleagues in 2010 Apologizes

HomeAmy Bishop, a former biology professor at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, has for the first time apologized for in 2010 killing three of her then colleagues and injuring three others, NBC News reported. In a handwritten note as part of a new appeal to undo a plea agreement she made, Bishop referred to what she did as a "terrible crime". Read more...

Authors Guild Plans Appeal to Supreme Court

HomeThe Authors Guild on Friday vowed to take its case against Google to the U.S. Supreme Court after an appeals court said the technology giant's digital library does not violate the copyrights of authors. USA Funds to Invest in Measuring Value

HomeUSA Funds, a large nonprofit student loan guarantor, this week announced $3.5 million in funding for four initiatives to measure the value of college. Recipients include the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, which has developed program-level return-on-investment reports, and the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems, which is comparing degree production to employer demand in specific regions. Petitions and Protests Against Columbus Day

HomeMost colleges and universities had regular class schedules on Monday, Columbus Day. But Native American activists and their supporters are urging colleges that do observe Columbus Day or those that don't to start observing a day to honor indigenous groups in America, and to remember how their rights were ignored. Brown University in 2009 decided to stop referring to Columbus Day as such, but instead to call it the Fall Weekend Holiday. Read more...

Admissions Coalition Delays Start of Key Feature

HomeThe Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success -- a group of more than 80 colleges planning a new application platform -- was announced last week and quickly ran into considerable criticism. On Wednesday, in response to some of that criticism, the coalition sent a letter to high school counselors announcing that the launch of a key feature was being pushed back from January to April.
