New HEFCE data show how higher education participation has changed over time and by region

A report published by HEFCE reveals that the proportion of young people in England going on to higher education increased substantially, by more than a quarter, between the late 1990s and the 2011-12 academic year to reach 38 per cent. It also highlights significant geographical variations in the proportion of young people entering higher education.
