Graduates facing freeze in starting salaries this year

By Graeme Paton. University leavers will be dealt a further blow this year after it emerged the majority of employers are planning to freeze wages because of the economic crisis. Almost three-quarters of firms are preparing to hold salaries for graduates at levels seen last year, it was revealed. The freeze represents a real-terms cut in overall wages after accounting for inflation. The disclosure – in a study by research company Incomes Data Services – will pile fresh pressure on university leavers who have already been severely hit by the downturn in recent years. Read more...
