This probably belongs in the E-Learning 3.0 course (under the 'identity' section) but it's part of educational technology in general (we don't talk about it a lot, but authentication and passwords make up some of the biggest usability issues in ed tech). "This specification defines an API enabling the creation and use of strong, attested, scoped, public key-based credentials by web applications, for the purpose of strongly authenticating users."
