MOOCs March On
By Tim Goral. Whether you think they are hype or the next step in the evolution of learning, there’s no question that MOOCs have taken the education world by storm. Platforms such as Coursera, edX, and UniversityNow offer free courses online to students anywhere, and are continuing to grow. Coursera now has more than 60 partners here and abroad, including École Polytechnique in France, the National University of Singapore, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Meanwhile, edX, a venture cofounded by MIT and Harvard, also announced a number of new international partners, including the Australian National University, Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland, McGill University in Montreal, and the University of Toronto. To date, edX has more than 700,000 individuals on its platform, who account for more than 900,000 course enrollments. Read more...
