'Divert Unprepared University Students,' Report Says

Nobel Laureate Won't Allow Guns in Class, Despite Law

HomeOne of the most famous professors at the University of Texas at Austin said this week that he plans to ban guns from his classroom, despite a new state law that will allow concealed weapons across campus, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The new law has already attracted lots of faculty opposition, but the pledge from Steven Weinberg, winner of the 1979 Nobel Prize in physics and the Jack S. Josey-Welch Foundation Chair in Science and Regental Professor at Austin, gives the cause new weight. Read more...

New Passing Score for the GED

HomeThe GED Testing Service today announced that it will lower the passing score for the GED, a test that serves as the equivalent of a high-school degree. At the same time the service, which Pearson and the American Council on Education own jointly, said it was adding two new, optional levels above the passing score (and the previous passing level) that will allow students to signify college readiness or to earn ACE recommendations for college credits. Should Harvard Rename Med School for $1 Billion?

HomeHarvard University, which has lagged other colleges in selling naming rights for academic colleges, has done so twice in recent years, in return for large gifts. That has prompted debate at its medical school over whether an extremely large gift (not yet on the table, but people are talking about a $1 billion gift) would justify renaming the medical school, STAT reported. Judge Grants Extension of Work Program for International Students

HomeThe regulation governing the STEM OPT program, which grants students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields the right to spend an additional 17 months working in the U.S. on top of the 12 months available to all international students, was set to expire Feb. 12 after a federal judge ruled the regulation invalid on procedural grounds. Humanities R&D Spending Up, on Small Base

Coursera Removes Free Track From Some MOOCs

HomeMassive open online course platform Coursera is removing the option to complete some of the courses offered on its platform for free. Coursera has previously offered a free track and a paid track that awards an identity-verified certificate, but as of last week, learners will have to pay a fee in some courses to have their assignments graded. Académie de Nice : une nouvelle carte du réseau des Greta en 2016

Numero_VertLe réseau formation continue de l`académie de Nice s`est réorganisé, passant de 6 Greta à 3 Greta au 1er janvier 2016.

Désormais, on compte 2 nouveaux Greta départementaux:
- Le Greta Côte d`Azur, porté par le Lycée des Eucalyptus à Nice, remplace les Greta de Nice et de la Côte d'Azur, Antipolis et Cannes Grasse St-Raphaël sur les Alpes-Maritimes.
- Le Greta du Var, porté par le Lycée Langevin à La Seyne sur Mer, remplace le Greta de la Dracénie, le Greta Var Méditerranée, et reprend la partie varoise du Greta Cannes Grasse St-Raphaël.

Un Greta de filière, le Greta Tourisme Hôtellerie, est porté par le Lycée Paul Augier à Nice et conserve son périmètre d'intervention académique.

L'action du Greta est renforcée par l'appui du GIP FIPAN, qui accompagne le réseau dans sa démarche commerciale et de communication, dans la réponse aux appels d'offres, et dans la formation de ses acteurs.
Le GIP FIPAN regroupe également les pôles Conseil en Ressources Humaines, Recherche & Développement et Validation des acquis de l'expérience (VAE).
