Recent opinion polls and commentators agree that first-time voters could be a significant factor influencing the outcome. German-supported computer centre opens in Kandahar

The centres are being set up by the German Academic Exchange Service, or DAAD, in cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin. Melbourne and Tsinghua establish virtual campus

First global contest over innovative pedagogy

Called "The Wharton-QS Stars Awards 2014 - Reimagine Education", the contest will provide all universities and enterprises around the world with opportunities to showcase innovation in e-learning, blended and classroom-based learning. Universities across continents explore Glocal Classroom

New minister for HE and research in enlarged ministry

Genevieve Fioraso has been replaced by Benoit Hamon, who takes over an enlarged Ministry for National Education, Higher Education and Research. Hamon (47) joins the government of Prime Minister Manuel Valls, who has replaced Jean-Marc Ayrault following poor results for the Socialist Party of President Francois Hollande in municipal elections at the end of March. Mega-reforms to HE proposed by quality commission

Students moving abroad risk arrest for loan defaulting
