BBCBy Richard Watson. The Home Office has suspended English language tests run by a major firm after BBC Panorama uncovered systematic fraud in the student visa system.
Secret filming of government-approved exams needed for a visa shows candidates having tests faked for them.

Home Secretary Theresa May said the BBC's evidence was "very shocking".
Panorama saw candidates for tests set by ETS, one of the largest language testing firms in the world, being replaced by "fake sitters" and having answers read out to them. More...

Cameron's student visa policy is a disastrous own goal

http://static.guim.co.uk/static/c55907932af8ee96c21b7d89a9ebeedb4602fbbf/common/images/logos/the-guardian/news.gifBy . The prime minister's careless immigration pledge is putting off some of our brightest visitors – and damaging Britain. Stupid. Incoherent. Short-sighted. Cack-handed. Intrusive. Counter-productive. One thesaurus is not enough to describe the folly of the British government's policy towards foreign students. Working in a British university, I see its dire effects every day. Kafkaesque, intrusive bureaucracy. More...

Home Office suspends English language tests

By David Matthews. The Home Office has suspended an organisation’s English language tests for immigration purposes after cheating was allegedly uncovered on some exams.
Theresa May, the home secretary, told the education sector to “put its own house in order” following revelations about the immigration scam. The BBC’s Panorama programme found that students were able to get others to take the English Testing Service (ETS) exams for them in order to get round English language requirements for student visas. It found that an undercover reporter was able to pay £500 to an immigration consultancy for a “guaranteed pass” on the English tests. More...
