Equal education funding gets big results on Manitoba reserve

By . The school experiencing this dramatic turnaround is on the reserve of the Waywayseecappo First Nation, a 3½-hour drive west of Winnipeg. It has 330 students from kindergarten to Grade 8. In 2010, a one-off experimental agreement was reached between local leaders, the province and the federal government to provide the same level of funding to “Wayway” students as that received by students in nearby provincial schools. Australian Universities See Record High in Indigenous Enrolment

According to the Australian Ministry of Education and Training, Australia is committed to providing its students with access to higher education because university graduates have a lower unemployment rate and are more prepared to compete in the country’s growing economy. Enrolment data from 2015 indicates that the Australian government’s efforts to increase the number of students, particularly those in under-represented demographics, are working. According to statistics from the first half of 2015, domestic student enrolment has increased by more than 3%, and the number of Aboriginal students grew by 7.6% in the same period. More...

Professional Certificate in Indigenous Research

5-11 May 2016, Parkville campus (venue to be advised)

This course is an interdisciplinary program which explores research and develops research skills from an Indigenous perspective, and considers 'Indigenous research' as not only research by Indigenous individuals but also research on Indigenous topics. It is taught over a week-long intensive at the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus with accommodation provided for participants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
