African Higher Education Summit – A continental agenda for next 50 years

The summit covered topics ranging from the rapid expansion and governance of universities to investment in higher education, graduate employability, equity and gender issues, and higher education harmonisation.
John Kirkland OBE argues that building African higher education will take time – but the investment will be worthwhile – and Damtew Teferra outlines five ‘talking points’ for African leaders to consider at a heads of state meeting in June 2015, where higher education revitalisation will be on the agenda.

Foreign Ministry to build Higher International Relations Education Institute

Speaking about the Mirex strategies, under the National Development Plan for 2013-2017, which postulates the strengthening of the Angolan position at regional and international context, the official said that within days it will be signed an agreement with the Chinese Embassy, which made a donation for the construction of facilities in Camama area, urban district of Kilamba Kiaxi in Luanda. Africa must commit 1% of GDP to research – President

African Research Universities Alliance launched

50% higher education participation in 50 years – Summit

A draft declaration and action plan also urges greater investment in higher education and research, improved graduate employability and enhanced diversification, differentiation and harmonisation at all levels by countries. Africa's first summit on higher education shows high ambition
