ELTE Ranking Workshop in Budapest

The Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), a member of IREG Observatory, organized in Budapest  (16 and 17 February 2018) a ranking workshop. Seven Hungarian research universities were represented at the workshop with the following goals: to present the changes of global rankings to the Hungarian universities in the light of the ranking experts’ experiences; to present the ranking strategies, particularities, ideas of Hungarian institutions of higher education to global ranking creators and experts; to support the international positions of Hungarian and Eastern European universities. THE Asian Rankings Show Progress by Chinese Universities

The latest edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) Asian university rankings has just been published. This uses the same thirteen indicators as THE’s World University Rankings but they have been recalibrated to take account of regional priorities. FT Business School Rankings

The Financial Times has issued the latest edition of its Global MBA Rankings. The USA continues to dominate the upper levels of the rankings although some Asian schools have made steady progress over the last two years. Data was collected for 155 schools that met minimum requirements for accreditation and the number of survey responses and 101 of these were included in the published rankings. More...

The Group of States against Corruption publishes two reports on Turkey

The Council of Europe’s 49-member Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) has published two reports assessing Turkey’s record on preventing and combatting corruption. With few exceptions, GRECO notes a worrying lack of progress in many areas.
In the first report, GRECO expresses concern about fundamental structural changes that have taken place in Turkey recently, putting the independence of the judiciary from the executive and political powers at stake. More...

Human Rights Commissioner concerned by certain provisions of draft law on immigration and asylum in France

While welcoming a number of measures securing the right of residence of refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, the Commissioner is concerned about the proposal to reduce the deadline for submitting asylum applications to 90 days. International Women’s Day (8 March)

The Council of Europe has just adopted a new Gender Equality Strategy 2018-2023, to help progress towards de facto gender equality at all levels and in all areas. Denmark will host the launching conference of this new strategy, entitled “Gender Equality: Paving the way” in Copenhagen on 3-4 May 2018. Anti-torture Committee publishes a report on Belgium

In a report published today the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) focused on the Belgian authorities' efforts to improve the treatment and detention conditions of prisoners, ensure better care for psychiatric patients subject to an internment measure and combat police brutality.
