EUA Council approves seven new members

On the occasion of last week’s EUA Council meeting in Brussels, the Association approved seven new membership applications, including five for individual full membership and two for individual associate membership.

Arab-Euro Conference on research collaboration and capacity building: Call for contributions

EUA would like to invite its members to participate in the call for speakers for the Fourth Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education (AECHE 4), hosted by the University Mohammad V, in Rabat, Morocco from 24 to 26 April 2017. 
Since 2013, EUA together with the Association of Arab Universities has been collaborating on organising conferences for their members under the AECHE platform. This conference, “Research for sustainable societies – the role of universities,” will focus on bi-regional research collaboration and capacity building between Arab and European universities in the fields of energy, water, food and environment. Accreditation as a Tool for Quality Assurance in Education conference, 2 December, Baku (Azerbaijan)

The Accreditation and Nostrification Office of the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan (ANO) is organising the “Accreditation as a Tool for Quality Assurance in Education” conference on 2 December 2016 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The conference aims to bring together representatives of higher educational institutions, accreditation agencies and quality assurance experts to exchange knowledge and best practices on how to build effective national quality assurance systems. Focus on: Are teachers in Europe paid enough?

Anybody would agree with American journalist Charles Kuralt that 'Good teachers know how to bring out the best in students'. But do governments and public authorities know how to bring out the best in teachers? What are the factors that motivate young people to enter the teaching profession, support them in doing the best job possible, and encourage them to stay?
A common first response might be money. Dolton and Marcerano-Gutierrez studied the relationship between teacher salaries and pupil outcomes, showing a positive correlation between higher pay and higher pupil scores (in TIMSS and PISA). They argue that higher salaries for beginning teachers make the entry to the profession more competitive, and raise the average level of those entering. Moreover, once recruited, the possibility to reach higher pay levels and/or to receive more performance related pay can also act as an incentive for teachers to improve their pupils' educational outcomes. The report provides background and complementary information on a number of structural indicators examined in the Education and Training Monitor 2016, the annual publication of the European Commission which describes the evolution of Europe's education and training systems based on a wide range of evidence.
