12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance: conference on 28 October

Conseil de l'EuropeAn international conference on the Twelve Principles of Good Democratic Governance is taking place in Strasbourg on 28 October.
The event has been organised by the Council of Europe Centre of Expertise for Good Governance, within the framework of the French presidency of the Council’s Committee of Ministers. It will be followed by a ceremony to award the European Label of Governance Excellence (ELoGE) to several French municipalities.
Participants include representatives of French municipalities, the National Centre of Training for Local Authorities (CNFPT) and other ELoGE accredited organisations, municipalities from 20 other member states, the European Committee for Democracy and Governance, the Centre of Expertise for Good Governance, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. National minorities in Finland: rising intolerance needs tackling

Conseil de l'EuropeFinland has a long tradition of support for minority languages and cultures, through a well-developed legal framework that is generous towards persons belonging to minorities and affords extensive linguistic rights. However, as in other European countries, levels of intolerance and nationalism have risen in the past years. This has begun to put pressure on persons belonging to both traditional and “new” minorities as well as Swedish-speaking Finns. European summit of Presidents of Parliament in Strasbourg
