En 2017, Cédric Villani a été chargé de conduire une mission sur la mise en œuvre d'une stratégie française et européenne en intelligence artificielle (IA). Son rapport, rendu public le 28 mars 2018, aborde différentes facettes de l'IA : politique économique, recherche, emploi, éthique, cohésion sociale.
Le rapport évoque par ailleurs un ensemble d’actions visant à favoriser la créativité et les pédagogies innovantes dans le secteur de la formation professionnelle, l’éducation nationale et l’enseignement supérieur et la recherche afin de mettre en place des dispositifs de mutualisation et des outils de financement communs aux trois secteurs.
