EUA Webinar: The way forward for Doctoral Education

This EUA Webinar will look at these questions in relation to a forthcoming document from the EUA Council for Doctoral Education entitled “Taking Salzburg Forward” (referring to the Salzburg Principles and Recommendations). This document, which will be published later this month, gives recommendations related to the current state of doctoral education as well as its future. In particular, it refers to digitalisation, open access, research ethics and integrity, and the globalisation of doctoral education. More...

Dutch Presidency issues Amsterdam Call for Action on Open Science

On the occasion of the two-day conference “Open Science – From Vision to Action” organised by Dutch State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science Sander Dekker as part of the Netherlands EU Presidency, the “Amsterdam Call for Action on Open Science” was released on 6 April 2016.
The action plan includes specific objectives to accelerate the transition to open science in Europe. More...

Educating at home: what can we learn

However, while educational reforms in Europe push towards earlier and longer schooling, some people make a deliberate choice to educate their children at home. In the past, this was the case for the parents of Virginia Woolf, Agatha Christie, Thomas Edison, and Pierre Curie, among many world famous personalities, testifying that learning at home could be as beneficial as learning at school. La bière de l’IUT d’Avignon

Sur le blog "Histoires d'universités" de Pierre Dubois. Communiqué de presse. Fin mars 2016, trois étudiants en Génie Biologique à l’Université d’Avignon ont reçu les premiers prix pour meilleure bière et meilleur dossier lors du concours inter-IUT des industries alimentaires et biologiques Déf’IAB 2016. A European quality framework for apprenticeships

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) launched a European quality framework for apprenticeships at a conference on 14 April. Cedefop Director James Calleja praised the initiative saying that the focus on quality emphasises the need for high standards, a professional approach and a relevant context in which learners experience a combination of real work and education and training.
