NTEU Summary of 2016 Higher Education Student Statistics and TEQSA Financial Matters Report
NTEU has reviewed the recently released 2016 full year higher education statistics from the Department of Education and Training, which shows that while domestic student growth has stablised, international student numbers continue to expand. Indeed, TEQSA's Financial Matters Report (see Key Financial Metrics on Australia’s Higher Education Sector 2016) has found that while total revenue to universities and other higher education providers grew last year by 2.8 per cent, government support has fallen (from 45 percent in 2015 to 41 per cent in 2016 - a loss of $1.4 billion, according to TEQSA), and that this loss has been largely replaced through international student income.
