Germany: national decade for literacy and basic skills 2016-26

The Federal Government and Federal States have joined forces to instigate a National decade for literacy and basic skills 2016-26, intending to raise basic education levels and to improve adult reading and writing skills. Austria: promoting entrepreneurship in schools

Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship are among the eight key competences for lifelong learning which are listed in an EU recommendation from 2006. In Austria, self-employment is an attractive option for many, though it does not have the status that might be expected. To increase self-employment in Austria, the Ministry of Economy and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, with support from the Ministry of Education, launched the nationwide project Female entrepreneurs visit schools in September 2017. Austria: dual VET modernisation aims to increase digitisation of the economy

Dual vocational education and training (VET) plays a major role in Austria. To maintain the attractiveness of this education pathway both for companies and for young people, training contents need to keep pace with the requirements of the economy. This demands that the training ordinances and curricula of part-time vocational schools are revised regularly. The 2017 apprenticeship occupation package (Lehrberufspaket), comprises eight modernised apprenticeships, focusing also on setting up a new framework for digitisation. More...
