When it was introduced in Britain, the 1944 Education Act mapped out a new era for education. For the first time, local authorities became responsible for providing education according to “age, aptitude and ability”. More...
What possible evidence does Ofsted chief have to suggest religious extremists are ‘perverting’ education?
Only a few years ago, much the same was being claimed as part of the Trojan Horse scandal in which a group of conservative Muslims were accused of working to take over a number of schools in Birmingham. More...
How to prevent abuse in teenage relationships
A recent study of young people – aged 15 to 18 years old – in relationships in the UK and Spain, found that 21% experience serious victimisation by partners (an example given was one partner slamming the other into a wall). A further 30.1% meanwhile are subject to mild aggression including pushing, grabbing or shoving. More...
Setting more exams to combat stress among school students is utterly absurd
It is hard to understand what appears to be a blatant disregard for the mental health of children and young people on the part of the schools’ minister – especially given that this government has repeatedly called on schools to play a larger role in addressing the purported mental health crisis among students.

Demography and education: allies or enemies?
“What sculpture is to a block of marble education is to the soul”, wrote English author Joseph Addison. In Sub-Saharan Africa, is it to be feared that education will remain in an incomplete state, due to a population growth for which no one is able to say whether it is a real opportunity or whether it heralds an uneducated generation.
