Article 1:
The Association is formed of the founding members and of any future members who will join the association according to the provisions of these statutes. These statutes are governed by the law of 1st July 1901, as amended and by its application.
Article 2: Name
The association's name is "European Alliance for the Social Sciences and the Humanities."
It may be known by the acronym "EASSH."
Article 3: Purpose
The “European Alliance for the Social Sciences and Humanities” promotes the importance and value of the social sciences and humanities (SSH) at all pertinent levels and through all relevant actions in Europe and beyond.

The assessment phase of the first half of Horizon 2020 is being concluded with the release of the European Commission’s interim evaluation and the European Parliament’s committee report on the implementation of the programme. Both policy making bodies insist that Horizon 2020 remains largely underfunded and therefore is not able to meet the rising tide of excellent proposals submitted by the scientific community. These statements not only echo EUA’s concerns on the lack of efficiency of the programme, but also take into consideration EUA’s estimates of ‘hidden’ costs in submitting proposals. EUA considers the consultation as an opportunity to take stock of the practical experience achieved with the Framework so far, and to consider the changes that it may require. In particular, beyond skills and skills provision, the concept of lifelong learning would have to be revisited, given also social and technological changes. The High-Level Group specifically brings together university rectors and other leaders engaged in the negotiation of “big deals” with publishers on behalf of universities, and supports universities and national rectors’ conferences (NRCs) in these processes. For its fourth meeting, the group focused on two main issues related to the transition towards an open scientific publishing system: offset agreements in negotiations for open access (OA) to research publications situated within a gold OA context, and recommendations for green OA compliance.
