The four minorities - the Danes in South Schleswig, the Frisians, the German Sinti and Roma as well as the Lusatian Sorbs - presented their contribution to the different levels; regional, national and European:
Minorities are bridge builders in their regions, as well as across borders. They know how to work together, cultivate their language and culture and know how to move in two or more cultures. FUEN launches new project for the minorities in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina

We are pleased to announce a successful kick-off of a new project in Bijeljina, BiH. After the project “Minorities in Western Balkans” finished last year, the project partners received the trust and support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic cooperation and development (BMZ) and the State Chancellery of Schleswig-Holstein in collaboration with the GIZ to continue the project in 2017. As a follow up several sub-projects were developed by our local partners, with the support and experience of FUEN and ECMI. More...

Support for minorities: Parliament seconds Minority SafePack Initiative

Following the acknowledgement of the Minority SafePack Initiative (MSPI) from the former parliament of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein already in September 2013, the new parliament recently followed their footsteps and declared their support for the European Citizens’ Initiative, which was launched by the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) four years ago. The Romanian Government sues the European Commission for registering the Minority SafePack citizen’s initiative

According to the Official Journal of the European Union the Romanian Government appealed to the European Court of Justice to annul the European Commission’s decision to register the Minority SafePack Citizen’s Initiative. FUEN President Loránt Vincze, and Bálint Porcsalmi, Executive President of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) held a joint press conference in Transylvania today to address this new turn of events. Minorities of Europe need to have a clear, relatable message if we are to be understood

„An issue becomes known on an international level when Washington or Brussels pick it up. This was the case of the minorities in the former Yugoslavia during the war. Fortunately, we are not in that situation, but that doesn’t mean that the attention of the world is constantly, automatically drawn to us. South Tyrolean People’s Party (SVP) launches its campaign for the Minority SafePack Initiative

The South Tyrolean People’s Party (SVP), the FUEN member organisation in South Tyrol, Italy, and one of the initiators of the citizens’ initiative of the European minorities, started its regional campaign for the Minority SafePack Initiative yesterday. Four-day International Folklore Festival "Lausitz" concluded successfully

The XII International Folklore Festival "Łužica / Lausitz" ended on 25 June in Crostwitz to the sound of the festival fanfare. For four days long, 43 ensembles with around 860 contributors, amongst them seven junior groups with 170 members, attracted visitors in Bautzen, Drachhausen and Crostwitz. More...

The successful conclusion of the AGDM Annual Meeting

In the last week (19-22.07.17) the 26th anniversary of the Working Group of German Minorities (AGDM) took place. Around 45 participants, representatives of 19 minority organizations from 20 European and Central Asian countries, met in Berlin. The German minorities are of great importance to the Federal Republic of Germany, since they are cultivators of German culture - especially the German language - abroad and act as bridge builders between the states. Seminar of the Slavic Minorities will guest the Folklorefestival

The intangible cultural heritage and support for the Minority SafePack Initiative are on the agenda.
Around 20 participants from 8 different countries are expected to attend the XX. Seminar of the Slavic minorities in Bautzen, Germany between the 22-25.06.2017.
Organized by the Domowina - the federation of Lusatian Sorbs under the umbrella of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), representatives of the Slavic minorities from all over Europe meet every year to discuss their concerns. More...

The Minority SafePack Initiative is now available for online signatures

As of today, European citizens everywhere can now support the European Citizens’ Initiative online, to promote the cultural and linguistic diversity in Europe. On the Minority SafePack Initiative campaign homepage (http://www.minority-safepack.eu) the “Sign” button will allow access to the official petition system, where the respective country form needs to be accessed and the required data needs to be filled in. Additionally, a full overview of the online signatures that have been registered so far can be viewed. More...
