Boosting African agriculture with open access

Producing postgraduates for sustainable development

New science blueprint for agriculture takes shape

Agriculture training key to meeting continental needs

Budgeting woes hit European-funded mobility schemes

By Munyaradzi Makoni. The managers of Africa’s intra-ACP exchange programmes say that organising a large number of mobile students on the continent is a logistical nightmare. Worse, students complain of lack of research funding. Too many factors were not considered when European-funded mobility schemes were conceptualised for implementation in Africa.
The intra-ACP academic mobility scheme promotes cooperation between higher education institutions and supports student and staff mobility in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Read more...

East Africa initiative to boost women leaders in HE

By Wagdy Sawahel. An East African chapter of HERS – Higher Education Resource Services – has been launched. Based at Makerere University in Uganda, HERS-EA will among other things provide training to prepare more women leaders to steer universities in the region. HERS-EA was launched on 5 August during a two-day conference held in the Ugandan capital Kampala, which drew more than 150 participants from universities in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
