53,8% des jeunes âgés de 15 à 29 ans sont sur le marché du travail en 2014 : 44,0% occupent un emploi et 9,8% sont au chômage, soit un taux de chômage de 18,3%. 13,7% des jeunes ne sont ni en emploi, ni en formation. Fin 2014, les principaux indicateurs du marché du travail des 15-29 ans sont pour la plupart proches de leur niveau de fin 2012. Dans un contexte de durée des études stable, le taux d’activité a baissé de 0,1 point en 2 ans.
De fin 2012 à fin 2014, le nombre de jeunes bénéficiant d’un contrat aidé a fortement progressé et la part comme le taux de chômage des 15-29 ans n’ont augmenté que de 0,1 point, contre respectivement +0,3 et +0,4 point pour les 15-64 ans. Ces indicateurs restent cependant à des niveaux historiquement élevés. Par ailleurs, 4,2 % des 15-29 ans sont dans le halo autour du chômage en 2014, soit la même proportion qu’en 2012.
Les taux d’emploi et de sous-emploi des jeunes ont aussi été stables en 2013 et 2014. Entre 15 et 29 ans, les parts de chômage et de jeunes ni emploi, ni en formation sont en 2014 un peu inférieures en France à la moyenne de l’Union européenne, tandis que le taux de chômage est légèrement plus élevé. Le taux d’emploi y est plus faible pour les 15-24 ans, mais plus élevé pour les 25-29 ans.
