On Wednesday, 24 September 2014 the BFUG Secretariat sent out the call for the selection of the 2018 Ministerial Conference host with the deadline for receiving candidacies of 1 November 2014.

Moreover, as agreed by the BFUG on 7-8 November 2013 in Vilnius, the EHEA applications for membership should arrive by 1 November 2014.

Australian public investment in research lowest in over thirty years

An analysis of the recently released ‘Science, Research & Innovation Budget Tables’ undertaken by the Parliamentary Library on behalf of Adam Bandt, Greens spokesperson on science and research, reveals that the level of investment in science, research and innovation when measured as a share of GDP is at its lowest level in over three decades.

Funding for ‘anchor institutions’, technical skills and small and specialist institutions

The Catalyst Fund enables HEFCE to deliver its strategic aims for higher education in research, teaching and knowledge exchange. These calls for expressions of interest cover three specific areas.

Vocational education and training: a road to excellence

At the international congress on vocational and professional education and training in Winterthur (Switzerland) on 16 September, Mr Calleja addressed the question of whether vocational education and training (VET) is the end of the road or the beginning of a university career. He argued that, while both negative/positive answers are possible, VET is a lifelong learning process that may start with the acquisition of key competences and, possibly, lead to continuous professional development.
