Minister cuts 4,000 study places with low job prospects

International businesses support HE institutions

Two giant international businesses are supporting higher education institutions through agreements between the Total oil company and the government of the Republic of the Congo (also known as Congo-Brazzaville), and the Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei with a Tunisian university specialising in communications.
Through its subsidiaries Total E&P Congo and Total Congo SA, France-based Total has signed two accords, reported Agence D’Information D’Afrique Centrale, or Adiac, of Brazzaville. Read more...

Sub-Saharan Africa’s share of global research rises

Minister announces ‘hubs’ and other university changes

By Wagdy Sawahel. Morocco is considering a number of higher education reforms, including grouping big universities together into ‘hubs’ to increase their visibility, promoting research and making mastering English compulsory for students wanting admission to science universities.
According to a report in Almaghribia, the new measures were announced by Morocco's Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Training, Lahcen Daoudi, at a Maghreb Arab Press Forum held under the theme “2014-2015 Academic Year: Expectations and challenges” on 16 September in Rabat, Morocco. First private university gains permanent licence

Summit to forge the future of African higher education
