Along with Palgrave Macmillan, the publishers of Higher Education Policy (HEP), the Association's quarterly research journal, IAU is pleased to announce that the Thomson-Reuters Journal Citation Report has just been released for 2013, increasing the journal's Impact Factor to 0.415 from 0.185 for 2012. Meiji University, Japan, wins one of the 2014-2023 "Top Global School" Projects Awards, and the Vice President, International and her colleagues are convinced that without the ISAS process, (IAU’s Internationalization Strategies Advisory Service), the institution could not have achieved this success. The ISAS process involved a small panel of international and Japanese experts who worked with the leadership and other stakeholders from the University for nearly 8 months to assess and strengthen the institutional strategy for internationalization.
IAU congratulates Meiji University and is pleased to note that, as with Hokkaido University, the first Japanese institution to call on the IAU’s ISAS in 2010, the University will now have additional resources to carry out its internationalization plans. More...

HEFCE has received the results of the most recent Efficiency Measurement Model survey, through which universities report on the efficiencies achieved through improved procurement methods.
The survey, coordinated by the British Universities Finance Directors Group and the North Western Universities Purchasing Consortium, received 94 responses from English institutions for 2012-13, an increase of over 20 per cent on the previous year. More...

HEFCE has published new data exploring the link between economic growth and higher education provision. The interactive data toolkit identifies ‘cold spots’ in higher education provision and participation across England.
For the first time, HEFCE has brought school and higher education data together with employment and mobility data to give a comprehensive and detailed picture of higher education participation and provision, employment and graduate mobility. More...

These maps are a toolkit to explore a wide selection of higher education and economic data. Interactive and detailed, they can be focused on local areas and topics of particular interest.

The European Commission has published a report evaluating Your first EURES job, a mobility scheme to help young Europeans between 18 and 30 to find a job, traineeship or apprenticeship in other EU countries implemented by the Commission between 2011 and 2013.
The aim of the evaluation (was to take stock of the results achieved over the first two years of the scheme and of the main challenges to be addressed in the future.

Literacy skills of adults aged 25-64 with general education tend to be higher than for those with vocational qualifications across all European countries covered by the OECD’s Survey of Adult Skills.
Similar results can be observed for numeracy skills.This is not surprising. Literacy and numeracy are given more emphasis in general education and the survey does not measure vocation-specific skills. However, the gap within different European counties varies considerably; for literacy skills it is relatively narrow in countries such as Estonia, Ireland and Sweden, but much wider in some European countries that separate vocational and general learning tracks at upper secondary level (such as Finland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands). The latest findings from the OECD survey signal the importance of fostering information-processing skills, like literacy and numeracy, to increase the adaptability of VET graduates in the labour market.
