Estonian and Chinese Ministers of Education signed diploma recognition agreement

Estonian Minister of Education and Research Jürgen Ligi and Chinese Vice Minister of Education Li Weihong signed an agreement on mutual recognition of higher education qualifications, promoting cooperation and student exchanges between higher education institutions in Estonia and China.
The agreement was signed on 27th of April in Rīga, during the 5th Asia-Europe Education Ministers´ Meeting. More...

New research projects on Open Educational Resources in Germany

Open Educational Resources have become an integral part of adult learning in Europe. However, many issues concerning quality, legal frameworks and infrastructures remain unclear. In this context, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research provides funding for research projects on OER in Germany. An expert group coordinated by Deutscher Bildungsserver will analyse the needs for digital infrastructures (e.g. E-platforms) for OER. Wikimedia Deutschland’s project Mapping OER aims at identifying recommendations for questions like quality management, the training of practitioners or business models. More...

Eurostat: 14% Europeans aged 25-29 in education

Just 14% of adults aged between 25 and 29 are still in education, according the to latest Eurostat research.
The ‘Being young in Europe today’ report highlights a lack of involvement of young people in lifelong learning.
The publication gives us some new data on young people aged 15–29 in the EU, and one of the aspects covered is young people’s participation in education. More...

Youth unemployment rate slows

Levels of youth unemployment across the EU28 rose by just over 2% between 2010 and 2013 according to statistics from the European Youth Monitor.
The numbers of young people aged 15-29 out of work stood at 20.6% in 2010, while by 2013 the figure was 22.7%. More...

Lifelong learning ‘watchdog’ to monitor EU policy

A new Lifelong Learning Interest Group has been initiated by EAEA (European Association for the Education of Adults), EUCIS-LLL (European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning) and six members of the European Parliament.
The group is hosted by MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP, Finland) and aims to discuss issues and concerns around lifelong learning issues. It will monitor the European Commission and lobby for attention on important issues. More...

Erasmus+ supporting language learning

Erasmus+ Online Linguistic Support (OLS) is the new online tool for learning languages on-the-go.
The OLS offers participants in Erasmus+ long-term mobility activities (Key Action 1) the opportunity to assess their skills in the foreign language(s) they will use to study, work or volunteer abroad. In addition, selected participants may follow an online language course to improve their competence. More...

European ministers endorse Riga conclusions on VET

At a meeting hosted by the EU Latvian Presidency in Riga on 22 June, the ministers renewed their efforts 'in raising the overall quality and status of VET in the context of the Copenhagen process.' They aim to meet the education and training 2020 strategic objectives and reaffirm their support for the wider European growth and jobs agenda.
