Selon Ayrault, le crédit d'impôt compétitivité n'est "pas encore suffisamment utilisé"

http://www.usinenouvelle.com/images/header/logo-usn.pngPar Elodie Vallerey.

Uclan shelves plans for company status

Times Higher EducationBy John Morgan. The University of Central Lancashire is shelving plans to switch to private company status, potentially dealing a blow to other post-1992 universities’ hopes of making the move and opening up to commercial investment. Uclan said today it would not proceed with the proposals, which have been fiercely opposed by the University and College Union and Unison, “at this point in time” following “detailed discussions” with the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. However, the university said becoming a company limited by guarantee [CLG] was still its “preferred option”. Uclan wanted to stop being a higher education corporation – the status held by the majority of post-1992 universities, reflecting their quasi-public status – to maximise its international campus ambitions. Blackstone Group Creates $300 Million Scholarship Program for Study in China

http://thediplomat.com/wp-content/themes/thediplomat/images/the-diplomat_logo_en.gifBy Jonathan DeHart. Blackstone Group Chairman Stephen Schwarzman is launching a U.S. $300 million scholarship that will allow foreign students to attend Beijing’s elite Tsinghua University, known for grooming many top Chinese officials from Hu Jintao to Xi Jinping and, according to Forbes, for its exceedingly beautiful campus, set on a former Qing Dynasty royal garden dotted by imperial courtyards and ponds.
"China's economy is growing at three times the rate of the West, and if that growth continues, China will become the largest economy in the world within the next couple of decades," Schwarzman said prior to the launch of the fund on Sunday. Read more...

The right place to study

http://www.thehindu.com/template/1-0-1/gfx/logo.jpgThe U.S. is a long-time favourite but Dubai and Australia are now attracting attention
While China tops in sending students to the U.S. for higher studies, contributing nearly 25 per cent of students of international origin studying in the U.S. (according to the 2012 Open Doors Survey), India comes second at 13 per cent. But this figure has seen a slight decline of 3.5 per cent while the Chinese figures have clearly gone up by a large margin of 23.1 per cent.
The reasons for this decline could be many. But the Green Card and residency lure is a major factor that is still pulling students to the U.S. at a time when many other students are looking for emerging higher education destinations such as Dubai. Though the U.K. has also been preferred by students, they are now making choices of higher education based on whether they would land jobs in that country and the allied aspects of acceptance and diverse international presence. Font Size: increase font decrease font The China Option

http://www.americanlawyer.com/img/tal_12/asia_masthead.jpgBy Tom Brennan. When she graduated from California’s Hasting College of Law in 2011, Delida Wong knew she would be facing a tough job market at home. So she set her eyes on Beijing instead.
"I didn’t even bother applying to jobs in the States," she recalls.
Wong joined a small but increasing number of young American law graduates drawn to China by a sense of adventure but also a belief that the fast-growing economy offers career opportunities not available to them in the United States.
These lawyers, who come to China without jobs, are distinct from those lawyers who are relocated there by international firms. If anything, the latter, who enjoy U.S.–level salaries and sometimes generous expatriate packages, represent what the former are hoping to achieve in China. But the first step for many of them is to head back to school. Read more...

Ministers to woo Latin American students

http://static.bbci.co.uk/frameworks/barlesque/2.44.2/desktop/3.5/img/blq-blocks_grey_alpha.pngBy Hannah Richardson. Two British ministers are mounting a charm offensive in Latin America to try to attract potential students to come to universities in the UK.
Business Secretary Vince Cable and universities minister David Willetts travel to the emerging economies of Brazil, Mexico and Colombia on Monday.
UK universities have seen big falls in the number of students coming from countries such as India, which have traditionally been the biggest players.
Many blame tighter student visa rules. Read more...

Tuition up in 451 colleges

http://122.49.208.54/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/mstonlinelogo.gifBy Christine F. Herrera. As 111 state colleges and universities were set to observe a nationwide moratorium on tuition increases this year, student and youth groups on Sunday urged the 451 of the 1,604 private schools to follow suit.
Kabataan, League of Filipino Students and the National Union of Students of the Philippines and other youth organizations demanded that the Commission on Higher Education reject the applications of 451 private schools for a 5 percent to 10 percent increase in tuition.
At the same time, the groups welcomed the announcement of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges to impose a nationwide tuition hike moratorium for the incoming school year, including those that already approved increases for this year. Read more...

How Far Is Belarusian Education from European Standards?

http://belarusdigest.com/sites/default/files/framework_logo.pngBy Artyom Shraibman. "Belarus aspires to the integration with the universal educational system preserving its achievements and traditions", – said the Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Zhuk on 3 April 2013. However, what he meant under "traditions" sometimes clearly contradicts the principles of education accepted elsewhere in Europe.
The system of manual control, absence of real self-governance, political pressure on students and universities plague the atmosphere of educational freedom in the geographic heart of Europe.
Evident Lack of Academic Freedoms
Belarus remains the only European state outside of the Bologna system. This gap complicates recognition of Belarusian academic degrees and slows down the Belarusian-European academic exchanges. Bologna system experts expect substantially greater amount of academic freedoms in Belarus - something which the government of Belarus resists. Read more...

Benson talks tuition increases, international recruitment

http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc7/373459_277905592223706_582702809_q.jpgBy Dezarae Yoder. With Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., submitting a 3.6 percent increase in classified pay as a part of his budget plan, state schools must formulate ways to fund these increases.
“We came up with a 3.1 percent salary pool,” CU President Bruce Benson stated April 15 at Berger Hall during a town hall-style meeting.
“It costs a lot more to replace those good people than it does to keep them on with a little more salary increase.”
Benson spoke of the special Board of Regents meeting held earlier this month.
“They approved all of our tuition and fees that we recommended to them,” Benson stated.
CU Regents endorsed a 6 percent increase in tuition rates for UCCS students, both undergraduate and graduate resident students. Non-resident students will see a 4 percent tuition increase coming into effect next fall. Read more...
