On 25 October 2013, two new studies on translation and multilingualism will be discussed by experts in legal translation and in intercultural studies. The first is a topic close to the heart of many translators working with institutional texts: "Document quality control in public administrations and international organisations" reviews best practices in a selection of legal environments and makes recommendations. The second study, "Translation and language learning", argues that translation today is back in fashion in language teaching, as a tool for motivation and for enhancing intercultural skills.
Young people will also be in the limelight: four young researchers from the EMT (European Master's in Translation) universities will make poster presentations of their research projects on related topics. Directorate-General for Translation’s new interns from Brussels and Luxembourg will join in the open discussion.
Participants include representatives from universities, the language industry, language institutes and professional associations.

The second LIND-Web Forum [67 KB] will gather language industry stakeholders from translation and language technology companies to universities and freelancers to discuss ways of highlighting and bringing forward the language industry and to promote its job generating potential.
The event goes together with the Translation Studies Day [18 KB] . This will allow participants to meet and exchange thoughts with players from the language industry and academia.

UPC UNESCO Chair of Higher Education Management (CUDU) invites to the "Seminar in Strategic Management of Higher Education Institutions". This event will take place in Barcelona from 11 to 15 November 2013 at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – Barcelona Tech (UPC)
Strategic Management of Higher Education Institutions seminar, aims to promote reflection, discussion, analysis and solutions around the possible ways to get the university to meet its role as a fundamental agent for the development and progress of the people, places and countries. It is aimed at senior management of higher education institutions, both academic and administrative staff, who are part of the management teams of its institutions. The seminar organizer is the UNESCO Chair of Higher Education Management (Cátedra UNESCO de Dirección Univesitaria – CUDU), a unit of UPC with the goal to support initiatives that promote enhancement and innovation of higher education and universities, following the principles of UNESCO. The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya partners with the ESC Rennes (France) and UNE and UWS (Australia) to develop the first joint master orientated to social entrepreneurs
On 8-12 April, a follow-up meeting was held in Rennes (France) to agree on the program’s mission, attended by three professors of the UOC Business School, along with French and Australian professors
The International MBA Social Entrepreneurship (IMBASE) is co-funded by the European Commission and the Australian Government to promote joint degrees between European and Australian Universities. These institutions will also offer mobility aids to the 40 students. The programme will launch in 2014, and will last 18 months.
The mission of the programme is to develop entrepreneurs able to challenge humankind’s most pressing problems by identifying opportunities, generating solutions and delivering initiatives that create sustainable value. The courses will combine face-to-face and online teaching. The institutions involved are the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Spain), the University of New England (Australia), the University of Western Sydney (Australia) and the ESC Rennes School of Business (France). In particular, the programme will include some innovative features such as on-line teaching, collaboration between universities, collaboration with non-academic partners to shape some of the projects students will engage in.
