Growing demand for professional management doctorates

Universities begin preparing for sweeping reforms

More research, but it must be world-class – Minister

New visa rules will help attract and retain scholars

Economics students worldwide call for subject overhaul

By Jan Petter Myklebust. In an open letter published on 5 May, 42 associations of economics students in 19 countries called for more pluralism in the way economics is taught at universities. The letter – which said the subject was in crisis and its lack of intellectual diversity was limiting their ability to contend with multi-dimensional challenges – made waves in media worldwide.

Hochschulchefs warnen vor Uni-Kollaps

In Zukunft werden viel mehr Studenten an die Unis strömen als bisher erwartet, zeigt eine neue Prognose. Nun warnen die Hochschulrektoren: Es drohe ein Kollaps, wenn Bund und Länder nicht bald handeln.
Am Donnerstag haben die Kultusminister ihre Erstsemester-Prognose für die kommenden Jahre deutlich nach oben korrigiert, jetzt rufen die Hochschulrektoren um Hilfe: "Um dramatische Konsequenzen für die studierwilligen jungen Menschen und einen Kollaps der Hochschulen zu verhindern", müssten Bund und Länder endlich zusammenarbeiten, fordert der Präsident der Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK) Horst Hippler. Studentenboom: Kultusminister korrigieren Studienanfängerzahl erneut nach oben

Kein Ende in Sicht: Auch in Zukunft werden wohl eine halbe Million Erstsemester pro Jahr an die Unis strömen, sagt die Kultusministerkonferenz jetzt voraus. Sie korrigiert damit frühere Prognosen deutlich nach oben.

Boom der Privaten: 137.800 Studenten lernen an Bezahlhochschulen

Immer mehr junge Leute suchen ihr akademisches Glück an einer privaten Hochschule: Innerhalb eines Jahres stiegen die Zahlen um zehn Prozent - und damit doppelt so stark wie die Anzahl an Studenten insgesamt.
Private Hochschulen werden immer beliebter. Im Wintersemester 2012/13 waren knapp 137.800 Studierende an privaten Hochschulen eingeschrieben, zehn Prozent mehr als im Wintersemester davor.
