5 Years with Inside Higher Ed

http://www.insidehighered.com/sites/default/server_files/styles/large/public/student_affairs_and_technology_blog_header.jpgBy Eric Stoller. This was a momentous week for me. On Monday, I counted 5 years of blogging at Inside Higher Ed. It was the summer of 2010 when Scott Jaschik asked me if I would write for IHE. I was excited to write for what was then, and still is, my favorite higher education news site.
While the header graphic on this blog is in desperate need of a refresh, I hope that the content that I've crafted in this collection of posts has been of use to readers.
This is the 330th post on this site and I am very thankful that I get to continue writing essays on social media, technology, organizational culture, professional development, learning, teaching, career development, leadership, mobile apps, accessibility, engagement, etc. Read more...

Providing "digital solutions for UK education and research," Jisc is a great source for digital inspiration and thought-leadership. Read more...

Studying Student Affairs in the UK

http://www.insidehighered.com/sites/default/server_files/styles/large/public/student_affairs_and_technology_blog_header.jpgBy Eric Stoller. The higher education / student affairs graduate program directory from NASPA currently lists 294 programs...most of which are located in the United States. Until recently, there weren't really any student affairs graduate programs in the United Kingdom*...until now. Kingston University and Anglia Ruskin University are now taking applications for student affairs/higher education masters level courses (in the UK, a "program" is called a "course") that begin in September. Peering Over The Cliff

http://www.insidehighered.com/sites/default/server_files/styles/blog_landing/public/StratEDgy%20Graphic%20Resized.jpg?itok=kIrUoz70By Margaret Andrews. Is higher education having a Wile E. Coyote moment?
Right now it seems as if we’re all watching Wile E. Coyote standing on that thin ledge and we know what’s about to happen, but it’s unclear whether or not he does. Read more...

Teaching in English: A Contentious Debate

http://www.insidehighered.com/sites/default/server_files/styles/blog_landing/public/the_world_view_blog_header.jpg?itok=P3OlGEpQBy Hans de Wit. One of the more controversial issues in internationalization is the dominance of English as language of instruction and the dissemination of scholarship.
Recently, two countries seem to be at the forefront of the debate. In Europe, The Netherlands has been implementing courses and degree programs in English since the mid-1990s. In Asia, South Korea leads other countries in developing English taught courses, a trend provoking considerable debate; In the Netherlands attitudes are shifting from rather positive to more critical assessments, resulting in a national discussion led by key scholars to abandon the unconditional use of English in the classroom. Teacher-to-Student Pessimism

By Dymin Ellis. Here’s the thing about applying to college: everyone expects you to do so. Moms, dads, teachers, society.
And here’s the catch: if you’re anything short of a white male, the mere mention of a prestigious institution makes the other guy frown. More...
