Education 2030 Framework For Action (FFA)

The Education 2030 Framework For Action - which provides guidance towards the accomplishment of the Education 2030 agenda (SDG4) - was adopted by acclamation at the Education 2030 High-Level Meeting which was held at UNESCO, Paris, France on 4 November 2015. The President of the International Association of Universities had been invited to speak and the Secretary-General of IAU delivered his intervention in which he welcomed the inclusion of higher education in the new agenda. IAU 2015 International Conference - a resounding success!

IAU/Palgrave Prize in Higher Education Policy Research 2014-15 Essay Competition

IAU is pleased to announce the winner of the the 2014-2015 IAU/Palgrave Prize in Higher Education Policy Research Essay Competition. This year's prize was awarded to Prof Ludovic Beheydt, of the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium for his essay entitled 'Super-Diversity and Cultural Mobility in European Higher Education: A Case Study in Cultural History'. The analysis covers the financial forecasts for the period 2014-15 to 2017-18, based on information submitted by higher education institutions to HEFCE in July 2015. Evaluations of HEFCE funding for knowledge exchange: the Higher Education Innovation Fund

'Assessing the economic impacts of the Higher Education Innovation Fund: A mixed-method quantitative assessment' was commissioned from Tomas Coates Ulrichsen of the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Policy at the University of Cambridge, to evaluate the economic impacts arising from HEFCE’s funding for knowledge exchange (KE) through the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF). It presents new estimates of the return on investment of HEIF using income as a proxy for impact on the economy and society (£7.30 per £1 of HEIF), and a novel calculation of some additional non-monetised benefits (£2.40). It sets out the evidence that the benefits delivered by HEIF are additional, non-substitutable and likely to be significantly higher than the economic impacts identified so far. More...

Falling surpluses risk sustainability of higher education sector

A review of the financial health of higher education institutions published by HEFCE concludes that future projected surplus levels are not sufficient to sustain the higher education sector in England.
