Brexit and UK Higher Education

The future of the 33,000 EU academics (15 per cent of the university staff complement) and the 125,000 EU students presently in UK is as yet unclear. International students remain within the general migration count and cutting the number of student visas is the easiest way for the government to show that it is reducing immigration—though the hostility to migration is primarily directed at work related immigration from Eastern Europe rather than international student mobility. However, it is certain that once EU students in UK are moved from the present income contingent tuition loan tuition arrangements they share with UK students, to full fees paid up front at commercial rates, there will be a dramatic decline in the number of EU students studying in UK. Indigenous university students’ sense of place/belonging and its effects on retention

‘Place’ is a significant concept used to explore how people ascribe meaning to their surrounds, based on the physical, social and emotional affects that different spaces create. The university is a physical, social and emotional space in which students (and staff) can feel strong attachments or may fail to attain such meanings. These experiences feed into student engagement and motivation about their studies in ways that have been under-researched so far in the literature on Indigenous student’s academic success and attrition. This workshop presents the findings of an Office of Learning and Teaching-funded project titled The ‘university place’: How and why place influences the engagement and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students, conducted by Indigenous and non-Indigenous academics at two universities, and aims to encourage discussion on similarities and differences between small, regional Queensland universities and The University of Melbourne. Le numérique facilite la recherche d'emploi, mais les relations permettent de trouver

Le numérique est un immense facilitateur dans la recherche d'emploi, un moyen de gagner du temps et de l'argent, mais il n'est pas encore le meilleur moyen de trouver ou retrouver un emploi, contrairement aux relations personnelles. Voir l'article...

A quoi ressemble le demandeur d’emploi aujourd'hui ?

En vingt ans, le profil du demandeur d'emploi a profondément changé selon la Direction des Etudes Statistiques de Pôle emploi : plus âgé, plus fréquemment en activité réduite et de longue durée, et la demandeuse d’emploi est en général plus diplômée. Quatre mois après le Brexit : retour sur l’expatriation des Européens

Les jeunes actifs français ont davantage envie de s’expatrier pour leur carrière qu’il y a trente ans, mais ils sont encore loin derrière les Allemands ou les Anglais.
